TITUS1 moves into deeper territory with “River of Lies,” a melodic and progressive collaboration featuring vocalist Meredith Miller, released through Interplay Unity, part of Interplay Records.

Blending progressive house with the darker, hypnotic character of melodic techno, “River of Lies” is built around atmosphere, emotion and gradual movement rather than simply racing toward a drop.

At the centre of it all is Miller’s haunting vocal performance, which gives the record its emotional identity while TITUS1 builds an evolving electronic landscape underneath it.

EMOTION MEETS THE DANCEFLOOR

There’s a deliberate contrast running through “River of Lies.”

The melodies can feel expansive and almost uplifting, while the vocal and darker undertones pull the record somewhere more introspective. That tension between light and dark becomes one of the defining elements of the track.

Rather than relying on one oversized payoff, the production is constantly moving. Layers appear and disappear, synths evolve, atmospheric sections open up and tension slowly rebuilds before the rhythm takes control again.

It’s progressive in the original sense of the word: the record develops as you move through it.

That approach gives “River of Lies” a cinematic quality while still retaining the drive needed for a late-night dancefloor.

SOMEWHERE BETWEEN PROGRESSIVE HOUSE AND MELODIC TECHNO

“River of Lies” deliberately lives between genres.

There’s the emotional songwriting, spacious breakdowns and sense of journey associated with progressive house, combined with the darker synth work, repetition and rolling energy of modern melodic techno.

The extended mix runs at 124 BPM in A minor, putting it directly in that sweet spot where progressive melodies can breathe without sacrificing club momentum.

The result is a record that can work in two completely different environments: played loud in a dark room as part of a building progressive set, or listened to on headphones where the smaller details and vocal performance can take centre stage.

MEREDITH MILLER BRINGS “RIVER OF LIES” TO LIFE

A major part of the record’s identity comes from Meredith Miller.

Instead of treating the vocal as something layered over an instrumental, “River of Lies” is constructed around it. Miller’s performance becomes another part of the atmosphere — vulnerable in the quieter moments and increasingly powerful as the production builds around her.

That vocal presence gives the track a human element against the colder electronic textures underneath it.

The title itself, “River of Lies,” fits naturally into that darker emotional world: a record built around tension, atmosphere and the feeling that something underneath the surface isn’t quite what it appears to be.
