Titus1 is contributing to the gaskets of sounds that the crowds in Calgary are eating up. You will find the Canadian/Chilean producer on a of staple event lineups in Canada including Boodang’s Scream on Halloween in Edmonton, but today Titus1 leads a Calgary special with local favourite Ginsong and upcoming Roger Raw, ‘Running Out Of Time, The Glorious Remixes’, a collection that explores the sounds fueling the region’s scene.
When asked about the Kult + Kraft Records release, Titus1 gives us a detailed unraveling of the production, “Running Out of Time came from the idea of bringing together a variety of worlds that have been crossing over more and more in our SSB sets lately, the scale and emotion of classic big room, but with the aggression, pace and raw energy of modern hard techno influences.
From the beginning, we wanted the track to feel massive without becoming overly complicated. The main focus was tension and impact: creating sections that keep building pressure and then release into something that hits hard in a club or festival environment. The vocal and melodic elements give the track that sense of urgency behind the title, while the production underneath gradually becomes darker and more aggressive.
The sound design is really where the hybrid side of the track comes through. The drops are built around a heavy kick and driving low end inspired by hard techno, but layered with big-room synth work, wide leads, atmospheric textures and FX combinations that give it a much larger sense of space. We spent a lot of time balancing those layers because we didn’t want the melodic elements to take away from the weight of the kick, or for the harder elements to completely bury the musical side of the record.
A lot of the movement comes from automation and layering and constantly introducing new micro sounds. Filtering, distortion, reverb, pitch movement, risers and small percussion changes all help increase the intensity as the track progresses. There are also a lot of subtle background textures that you might not immediately notice, but they help make each section feel like it’s continually moving forward.
Everyone brought a slightly different perspective to the record. That ended up being one of its key creative strengths. Instead of trying to make a straight big-room record or a straight hard-techno track, we embraced that middle ground.
The final result is basically our interpretation of where those sounds can meet: big, dark, fast, melodic when it needs to be, and built primarily around what we wanted to hear hitting through a huge sound system.” -Titus1
The eight track release includes extended and radio edits from Salmon Sushi Boys, Gasbler, and Toxic Wraith, plus single mixes from PVRPLE. and FERAL HEARTS with the original set to release exclusively EML Recordings later in October. Each producer brings a distinct interpretation to the original, spanning a range of tempos and textures while keeping the track’s core melody intact, all designed best for festival-level speakers. The remix pack is available now on all major streaming platforms.
