iTunes is a media player, media library, online radio broadcaster, and mobile device management application developed by Apple Inc. It is used to play, download, and organize digital downloads of music and video (as well as other types of media available on the iTunes Store) on personal computers running the OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The iTunes Store is also available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Through the iTunes Store, users can purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, audiobooks, podcasts, movies, and movie rentals in some countries, and ringtones, available on the iPhone and iPod Touch (fourth generation onward). Application software for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch can be downloaded from the App Store.

Google Play is a digital distribution service, including a digital media store, the Google Play Store (originally the Android Market), operated and developed by Google. It serves as the official app store for the Android operating system, allowing users to browse and download applications developed with the Android SDK and published through Google. Google Play also serves as a digital media store, offering music, magazines, books, movies, and television programs. It previously offered Google hardware devices for purchase until the introduction of a separate online hardware retailer, Google Store, on March 11, 2015.

Spotify is a Swedish music, podcast, and video streaming service that provides digital rights management–protected content from record labels and media companies. It is available in most of the Americas, Europe, and some countries in Asia and Oceania. Music can be browsed or searched by artist, album, genre, playlist, and record label. Spotify was launched in September 2008 by Swedish startup Spotify AB. As of June 2016, Spotify had more than 100 million active users and about half a billion registered users. As of August 2016, Spotify had 39 million paying subscribers worldwide, up from 30 million paying subscribers in March 2016. Spotify Technology S.A. operates as the parent company, registered in Luxembourg, while Spotify AB handles research and development in Stockholm.
